Catholic Schools Football Tournament

On Friday 20th March, St. Michael’s were invited to participate in the annual Catholic Sports Competition. We entered a football team from our year 4,5 & 6 boys and girl! The standard was high, however, our team coped well under pressure and qualified unbeaten to the semi-finals. Notably, we managed to beat St. Christopher’s of Codsall who were last year’s winners. In the Semi’s we came up against a strong St. Anthony’s team. The deadlock couldn’t be broken – with Brodey giving blood for the cause – so penalties ensued. The pressure didn’t get to Declan who calmly placed his shot in the bottom corner. Daniel saved their penalty and Finlay slotted home to put us 2-0 up in the penalty stakes. Their player placed his shot wide putting us into the final!

The final was played against Corpus Christi and was a one way affair from start to finish. Unfortunately for us their keeper was in amazing form and made save after save from Hebert  and Finlay. Emily, Jude and Jake were rock solid at the back so we needed Brodey, Gabriel and company to break the deadlock. With time ticking away we broke away. Brodey played in Finlay who passed to Hebert, who in turn laid on Declan to smash the ball home with the last kick of the game…Champions!!!

Special thanks to Mrs Cox who helped support the players and provide transport to and from the event.
